We usually respond within three days

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our BUX team based in Amsterdam.

Our engineering team sits at the heart of the company. We have a well-rounded team that cares about building great products that matter. You'll be part of a modern fintech company where you can try things, break things, fix them, and learn fast. Your work is visible, your input matters, and you help shape both the product and how we build it. We stay close to what's happening in the world of investing and fintech, and we share what we learn. It's a place where you can stretch your skills, contribute to something real, and grow alongside people who take their craft seriously and enjoy building things together.

What you will do

In this role, you'll go beyond writing excellent code; you'll shape our platform's technical direction, evolve our internal CQRS Event Sourcing Framework, and help roll out AI coding practices across the engineering organisation. To do this, you will have the help of other very experienced colleagues, the freedom to brainstorm and suggest new ideas, and the time to execute those ideas in a high-quality way.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, your job is to create the foundation for the product teams. This could mean:

  • Work on (the next version of) our internal CQRS Event Sourcing Framework, focusing on developer friendliness (ease of use/set-up/get started), performance (startup time, memory usage), scalability, documentation and learning materials

  • Drive the adoption and rollout of tooling around AI-assisted coding practices across the Engineering organisation, by documenting, standardising, and actively advocating for the use of a selected set of tools

  • Keep track of the Java / Kotlin / Spring Boot ecosystem innovations and actively promote within the BUX engineering team

  • Own (evolve, actively maintain and support) several Java production applications, such as our CQRS Event Sourcing Framework runtime services

  • Work closely with the core DevOps team on infrastructure alignment so our backend platform runs smoothly and securely

  • Focus on application/code-level security and implement best practices

  • Be available (in a proactive manner) to answer framework-related questions from other engineering team members, and help out with initial service creation/ideation

What you need to succeed

  • A DevOps mindset with involvement in every stage of the systems development life-cycle

  • Expert knowledge of Java/Kotlin on the JVM, Spring Framework / Spring Boot ecosystem

  • Knowledge and experience with setup of AI tooling to increase engineering productivity and speed up delivery

  • A platform/framework core development mindset (strong computer science knowledge)

  • Experience with DevOps practices, Kubernetes, transactional Kafka

  • Experience with CQRS and Event Sourcing architectures

  • A keen eye for detail while always keeping the big picture in mind

  • Proactive, self-starting, can-do mentality - strong drive to lead with a focus on execution

Nice to have

  • Application code-level security best practices

  • Experience with the GCP (Google Cloud Platform)

  • Experience and desire to share knowledge and advocate for quick and organized adoption of best practices

Why join BUX as a Platform Engineer?

  • You will have space to share your ideas and be encouraged to express your voice

  • You will lead the roll out of AI coding tools and best practices across the engineering organization

  • You will be challenged to build and evolve our core CQRS Event Sourcing Framework, focusing on developer experience, performance, and scalability

  • You will have the freedom to evaluate new tools that can be used to increase productivity, code readability, and maintainability

  • Lastly, the business domain is interesting. You will learn how the financial system works on the inside
