We are looking for a Staff QA Engineer to join our BUX team based in Amsterdam.
Our engineering team sits at the heart of the company. We have a well-rounded team that cares about building great products that matter. You’ll be part of a modern fintech company where you can try things, break things, fix them, and learn fast. Your work is visible, your input matters, and you help shape both the product and how we build it. We stay close to what’s happening in the world of investing and fintech, and we share what we learn. It’s a place where you can stretch your skills, contribute to something real, and grow alongside people who take their craft seriously and enjoy building things together.
What you will do
In a fintech environment, quality is not just about catching bugs; it's about ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining regulatory compliance, and safeguarding our users' trust. You'll have the opportunity to shape our QA strategy, implement modern testing frameworks, and drive continuous improvement across our engineering organisation.
As a Staff QA Engineer, you will lead technical topics. This could mean:
Providing technical and professional guidance to teammates in the area of testing
Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies for manual and automated testing across web, mobile, and backend services
Collaborate with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to define quality standards and acceptance criteria
Build and maintain automated test frameworks integrated with CI/CD pipelines for continuous quality assurance
Use Generative AI tooling to facilitate and extend the testing process, automate various testing scenarios and increase the testing coverage, while helping educate the rest of the team on how to take advantage of these tools
Define, write and maintain guides on how to test common scenarios, or how to quickly get the product in a state where a certain test can be done
Drive the adoption of best practices in test automation, performance testing, and security testing
Track and report on quality metrics, test coverage, and defect trends to stakeholders.
Champion a quality-first culture throughout the engineering organisation
Own, lead and organise regular Bug-bash meetings, where the whole team tests the latest version of our product
Acquire and document product knowledge, which is the foundation for being the first line of contact for our CS teams
Work together with the Product Owner in the team to create bug tickets and define the priority of already known issues
Contribute to sprint refinement meetings, or Product requirement documents, by defining the testing scenarios for new initiatives
Be the first line of verification of a new app release candidate (demo build)
Our tech stack
Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, GCP, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, TestNG/JUnit, REST APIs, WebSockets, Kafka, CloudSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Elasticsearch
What you need to succeed
We are looking for you if you are passionate about quality, you have strong leadership skills, and you thrive in a fast-paced fintech environment. Furthermore, we require:
10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 2 years in a lead role
Proven experience building and leading the QA process, while driving quality initiatives across the organisation
Strong expertise in test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Appium, REST Assured).
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Kotlin, Python, Javascript)
Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD practices
Experience with testing in highly regulated industries, particularly fintech or financial services
Strong knowledge of performance testing, security testing, and API testing methodologies
Excellent problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and analytical thinking
Nice to have
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly GCP
Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards (KYC)
Experience with mobile app testing (iOS/Android)
Familiarity with event-driven and event sourcing architectures
Experience with containerization and testing in Kubernetes environments
Certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or similar quality assurance credentials
A DevOps mindset with experience in infrastructure-as-code and test environment management
Why join BUX as a Staff QA Engineer?

You will work with modern technologies and have the freedom to introduce new tools and practices
You'll collaborate with intelligent, passionate peers who value quality and continuous improvement
