The opportunity

We are looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to lead two high-performing domains in our Member Hive. The hive's main objective is to improve the sports and wellness experience of hundreds of thousands of members. Together with our product management team, your leadership skills will play a crucial role in our mission to transform the way people engage with sports and wellness, by utilizing modern technology.

As an Engineering Manager at Urban Sports Club, your primary duty is to ensure the well-being of the engineers in your team. You ensure they are growing as engineers, delivering cutting-edge, quality and timely technology, and generally have a great time at Urban Sports Club. A proven technology background is vital to challenge your team members to be their best. You influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Your responsibilities

  • High-performing teams: Build and lead two high-performing engineering squads, championing innovation and collaboration. Oversee hiring, coaching, and career development for continuous growth and success of team members.

  • Strategic Vision and Collaboration: Ensure alignment of the Member Hive's technical vision and strategy with company goals. Collaborate with product development leadership, managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and user-centric solutions.

  • Best Practices and Quality Standards: Promote agile methodologies, meticulous code reviews, and automated testing to ensure compliance with industry standards and elevated code quality. Collaborate with the Engineering team to continually enhance and streamline development processes.

  • Technical strategy: Collaborate with your team and our staff engineers to make timely technical decisions.

  • Foster collaboration: with other disciplines and challenge fellow developers to generate innovative solutions while contributing to the overall product and technical strategy.

What you need to succeed

  • Proven Leadership and Technical Expertise: Demonstrated success as an engineering manager of multiple squads, or in a similar leadership role within a product & tech-driven environment.

  • Architectural Discussions: Comfortable engaging in architectural discussions, asking insightful questions, and assisting the team in making strategic trade-offs.

  • Team Building: Skilled in recruiting, onboarding, and nurturing a distributed engineering team, facilitating their growth and professional development.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to create shared group decisions.

  • Results and Quality Driven: Skilled in driving technical projects, adept at resolving complex engineering challenges, and demonstrating a proven track record of making timely decisions to position the team for success. You strive to have an efficient delivery with a commitment to continuous iteration.

  • Software Development: You also possess a strong technical background with in-depth knowledge of software development processes and technologies.
