The Director of R&D is responsible for leading the full product development lifecycle of Dario’s mobile health ecosystem, ensuring high-quality execution and timely delivery across all software engineering teams. This encompasses mobile apps, web platforms, backend systems, healthcare integrations, and internal tools. The role drives engineering excellence, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and ensures alignment between technology execution and business strategy.

We’re looking for a hands-on, respected technical leader who leads by example—someone the team can look up to for both their technical expertise and leadership style. This individual should be an effective communicator, skilled at building cross-functional relationships, and serve as a senior Dario leader at the India site, helping shape local culture and represent global leadership on the ground. The role also champions innovation and operational efficiency by actively exploring and leveraging emerging technologies, including AI tools and automation.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Execution

  • Lead the India R&D organization, ensuring successful delivery of mobile, backend, and full-stack projects with high quality and efficiency.
  • Manage engineering managers and team leads, mentoring them to scale execution and empower ownership.
  • Drive delivery and accountability for key product lines: Dario Mind, Dario Connect, Dario Move, and internal platforms.

Process & Quality

  • Establish and optimize Agile processes and development ceremonies across teams.
  • Ensure high engineering standards, scalable architecture, and testing automation.
  • Collaborate with QA and compliance to meet medical regulations (QMS), information security (HIPAA), and release readiness.

Product & Business Alignment

  • Work closely with Product, Marketing, and Customer Success to translate strategic goals into executable engineering plans.
  • Lead integration efforts with external healthcare partners (e.g., UnitedHealthcare), including mobile/web flows, API connections, and data exchange.

Organizational Leadership

  • Drive hiring, talent development, and performance management across the R&D function.
  • Represent R&D in executive forums, promoting data-driven decision-making, visibility, and collaboration across business units.
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives (e.g., platform migrations, AI enablement, rebranding projects).
  • Acts as the senior-most technology leader at the India site, representing R&D in all local executive forums.
  • Serves as a key voice in shaping company culture, values, and collaboration at the India site.
What you have:
  • Proven experience as a senior leader in R&D/Engineering, ideally in a digital health or SaaS environment.
  • Strong technical background and hands on experience in mobile, backend, and cloud technologies.
  • Expertise in designing and scaling distributed systems, cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred), microservices, and APIs.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
  • Familiarity with security and privacy standards (e.g., OAuth2, HIPAA, SOC 2), as well as application and data-layer encryption.
  • Hands-on experience with performance optimization, monitoring, and observability tools.
  • Experience working with analytics and AI technologies.
  • Experience leading multi-team organizations in a high-growth, Agile environment.
  • Excellent execution track record—scaling teams, improving velocity, and delivering business-critical projects.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate strategy into execution.
  • Experience with regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, QMS) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field; MBA is a plus.
  • Familiarity with customer-facing products, B2B integrations, and healthcare platforms.
  • Experience building offshore/onshore models and transitioning outsourced teams in-house.
