Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

The heart of a spacecraft lies in its engine, and that's why we are dedicated to developing our own cutting-edge Propulsion Systems ensuring the highest level of efficiency and reliability in our space endeavors.

We are seeking a talented Master’s-level student to join our Propulsion Systems division here in Bordeaux. As part of the engineering team, you will lead an independent project to enhance our controller-design workflow while also supporting the team’s core activities.

Key Responsibilities

As a control system engineer intern, you will work in the Huracan development team to help design and build and test the control system of our electric-pump-cycle rocket engine. This role will continuously evolve, but day to day duties include:

  • Evaluation of system identification techniques for a rocket engine characterization campaign.

  • Assist with robustness simulations (Monte-Carlo, μ-analysis).

  • Maturing our Model-Based Design development process.

  • Work on the implementation and testing of key embedded algorithms (Closed-Loop Controller, Health Monitoring System, Observer...)

  • Analyzing data from test campaign.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master 1/2 (or equivalent) in Control Engineering, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or Embedded Systems

  • Solid foundation in control theory and numerical methods

  • Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink or Python scientific stack

  • Curious, organized, and able to drive a project autonomously while communicating within a fast-moving team

  • Comfortable in English

  • Prior involvement in a student rocket, Formula Student, or robotics project is nice to have
