Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We are looking for an Intern Electronic Engineer to join our HiL Engineering Team in Munich. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of electronic hardware systems that emulate real spacecraft components, supporting test campaigns for component- and platform-level verification.
You will work in close collaboration with experienced electronic, avionics, and system engineers, and take ownership of the design of circuits and boards used for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and EGSE test platforms.
Key Responsibilities
In your role as Intern Electronic Engineer, you will:
Contribute to the design of digital and analog electronic circuits used to emulate electrical behaviors of sensors, actuators, and bus-connected devices
Develop schematics and printed circuit boards (PCBs) using Altium Designer (or equivalent tools)
Support the end-to-end development of emulation hardware — from concept definition to commissioning, including experimental validation and reporting
Integrate microcontrollers or COTS platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, uChip) for emulation and test automation purposes
Participate in the assembly, bring-up, and functional validation of test electronics
Collaborate with test software developers and system engineers to ensure seamless integration into HiL and EGSE platforms
-
Document designs and verification activities to ensure traceability and compliance with system requirements
You and your team will be in charge of:
Designing and implementing emulation hardware that enables faithful, automated, and efficient testing of electronic and system components
Supporting the integration of electronic hardware into a larger automated test infrastructure
Ensuring developed circuits meet performance, robustness, and maintainability standards
-
Contributing to the continuous improvement of the hardware testing environment
Must-Have Skills and Qualifications
Degree in Electronic Engineering (recently graduated or currently finalizing thesis/work placement)
Experience in digital and analog circuit design, including schematic capture and PCB layout
Familiarity with Altium Designer or similar ECAD tools (Altium preferred)
Understanding of embedded systems and microcontroller-based designs
Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing custom electronic boards
Basic ability to program microcontrollers or COTS platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
Interest in test automation and electronic systems for aerospace or high-reliability applications
Proactive attitude, ability to learn fast, and eagerness to take ownership of technical tasks
-
Good communication skills and fluency in English
