The Payments Tribe is looking after SumUp’s global card processing platform. As a part of the Payments tribe, the Payments Self-Service Squad is dedicated to providing SumUp's customers with a seamless payment and payout experience. We build comprehensive views of received funds, payout and payment reports, and easy-to-use payout settings.

We're looking for an experienced backend engineer who values a tech-agnostic approach, takes ownership of their work, and understands the importance of delivering customer value. You will have a global impact on our merchants' payment and payout experience across 30+ markets.

What you will do

  • You’ll design, build, and maintain back-end services in a microservice architecture

  • You'll participate in API design and implementation for internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators

  • You’ll write high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code that meets coding standards and best practices

  • You’ll collaborate with other software, QA, and DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment, continuous integration, and support for the software we deliver in production environments

  • You’ll actively participate in code reviews with other software engineers to improve code quality and maintainability

You will be great for this role if

  • You have several years of programming experience with Golang

  • You understand fundamental system architecture, software design principles, data modeling, and API

    design

  • You are knowledgeable of database modeling, performance tuning, and query optimization techniques

  • You are experienced with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL (CockroachDB is a plus)

  • You are skilled in implementing communication mechanisms between microservices, such as RESTful APIs, gRPC, or message queues (familiarity with Kafka is a plus).

  • You have experience in CI/CD pipelines setup and automation with tools like GitHub Actions, Gitlab CI, Docker, etc.

  • You have an open to feedback, collaborative approach to teamwork, and excellent problem-solving skills
