The Hardware Department is at the heart of developing our high-performance and innovative robots. It's in charge of designing, constructing, and optimizing the robot's physical components, including mechanical parts, sensors, and electrical systems. The team collaborates closely with other departments, like software development and product management, to ensure that the hardware aligns seamlessly with software and system requirements. This involves tasks like mechanical design and prototyping of components, using CAD tools and 3D printing technologies.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Expert to lead and manage safety initiatives of our 4NE-1 humanoid robot. This role requires expertise in safety standards, cross-functional collaboration, and a passion for integrating advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence into safety frameworks. This includes:
- Lead and manage all functional safety activities for humanoid robotics projects, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 and other relevant safety standards.
- Stay current with evolving safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508) and best practices in robotics and automation.
- Develop and execute comprehensive safety plans, schedules, and key deliverables such as HARA, Safety Goals, FSC, TSC, and Safety Cases.
- Create and maintain essential safety documentation, including safety plans, safety cases, and verification & validation reports.
- Perform in‑depth safety analyses using inductive and deductive methods.
- Conduct Functional Safety Assessments, audits, and design reviews both internally and externally.
- Act as the primary point of contact for safety‑related initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional, multicultural, and geographically distributed engineering teams and external stakeholders.
- Work with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to integrate safety mechanisms into system architectures.
- Support the development and implementation of functional safety concepts for advanced cognitive robotic platforms.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize safety processes and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
- Research, evaluate, and integrate Artificial Intelligence capabilities into humanoid robot safety frameworks to enhance compliance, reliability, and efficiency.
Must-have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of direct experience in functional safety engineering, preferably within the robotics, automation, or automotive industries.
- Proven experience in managing Functional Safety activities for high ASIL-level projects (up to ASIL D).
- Expertise in safety standards, including ISO 26262, and experience in executing the complete Safety V cycle.
- Strong technical, leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English; basic knowledge of German (A1 level) is a plus.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to stakeholders.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in integrating Artificial Intelligence into safety frameworks.
- Knowledge of humanoid robotics systems and their safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multicultural teams and manage projects under tight deadlines.
- Strong adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to learn new concepts and technologies
