Summary

To support our rapid development roadmap, we’re looking for a Senior IDE Engineer to lead the design and development of a modern, in-house VS Code extension and contribute to our SDK tooling ecosystem. You will play a key role in shaping the developer experience for engineers building applications on Innatera’s chip, designing intuitive, powerful tooling that bridges our unique neuromorphic architecture with real-world applications.

You will work closely with our platform and application teams, collecting and refining requirements, driving the adoption of the tool internally and externally, and ensuring that developers have a compelling environment they want to use.

We will trust you with:
  • Leading the designing and architecture of Innatera’s in-house VS Code extension, improving current features and developing new capabilities aligned with user workflows;

  • Driving thoughtful, user-centred UI design, ensuring features are intuitive, usable, and aligned with best practices for developer tooling;

  • Designing and implementing features including code project management, performance metrics visualisation, and debugging interfaces;

  • Integrating backend tools in Python to enable seamless hardware interaction (uploading programs, running applications, debugging);

  • Collaborating with platform, SDK, Algorithm & Applications teams to ensure smooth workflows from code to hardware;

  • Contributing to wider SDK team activities;

  • Taking ownership of core IDE components, advocating for clarity, simplicity, and performance.

Your experience includes:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field;

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Python;

  • Proven experience building IDEs, VS Code extensions, or developer tooling for embedded systems (e.g., Platform.io);

  • Solid understanding of software architecture and modular design;

  • Strong sense for UI/UX design tailored to developer workflows;

  • Working experience with Python;

  • Familiarity with software build systems, debugging tools, and embedded toolchains;

  • Interest in building tools that empower engineers and improve developer experience.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Python in Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI;

  • Knowledge of hardware-aware development tools (e.g., simulators, embedded debuggers);

  • Understanding of embedded systems and cross-compilation;

  • Experience building SDKs;

  • Familiarity with neuromorphic computing, signal processing, or AI at the edge.
