Meet the team behind this journey

As a Staff Product Designer at DeepL, you will lead design efforts on our core Translate product used by millions around the world. In this role, you’ll partner closely with cross-functional product teams and collaborate deeply with our research organization to explore how cutting-edge AI models can power new, intuitive user experiences.

You’ll shape product strategy at both a team and track-wide level, connecting user needs, model capabilities, and business goals into a cohesive design vision. As we evolve how people interact with translation through AI, you’ll play a key role in defining patterns that are not only powerful, but also trustworthy and human-centered.

As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor other designers, foster a high bar for craft and critical thinking, and help scale design excellence across DeepL’s growing product surface.

Your responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for solving a critical problem: enabling individuals and organizations to develop a consistent communication style and tone of voice. We expect you to:

  • Become an expert on who our customers are and what each customer group needs

  • Conduct generative and evaluative user research to define problems and validate solutions

  • Gather and evaluate requirements with cross-functional team members

  • Communicate design concepts early and often, backed by qualitative insights and quantitative data

  • Deliver final design specifications in Figma and other tools for frictionless implementation

  • Help to develop and improve design processes across the organization

  • Champion brand, copy and design standards

  • Support and promote the development of a company wide design system and ensure their use

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define product strategy in your area

  • Communicate track strategy to their team and help navigate business and user needs tradeoffs

  • Ensure a high level of design craftsmanship within the track

Qualities we look for

  • You have 6+ years of experience in product teams providing design solutions for web applications

  • Experience setting product design vision in a product area of multiple teams/platforms.

  • Experience with driving the whole product lifecycle – research, prototyping, iterative development and testing, launch, and continuous improvement.

  • Extensive knowledge of design processes.

  • You base your decisions on facts, not opinion, and always seek to validate your assumptions.

  • Solution-oriented and result-driven.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Resilient and able to deal with uncertainty.

  • Fluent in English. Other languages are an advantage.

  • Experience hiring and developing and leading a design team in the past is a bonus.

We are an equal opportunity employer

You are welcome at DeepL for who you are—we appreciate authenticity here. Our product is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all succeed, contribute, and think forward! So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It’s in our diversity that we will find the power to break down language barriers in the world.
