What will you be doing at DeepL?

As a Linguistic Projects Team Lead in the Research Department, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and empowering a team of Linguistic Projects Specialists. Your responsibilities include supporting team members in their daily tasks, facilitating their professional growth, and fostering a positive team culture. From assisting with hiring and onboarding to conducting regular one-on-one sessions, you'll be instrumental in ensuring the team's productivity and efficiency.

Moreover, you'll leverage data insights to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and optimize resource allocation for upcoming projects. Collaborating cross-functionally and contributing to departmental objectives, you'll champion process improvements and spearhead the implementation of new tools to streamline workflows. Ultimately, as the main point of contact for project and team-related inquiries, you'll be at the forefront of driving success in language data collection initiatives.

Your responsibilities

  • Coach and lead a group of Linguistic Project Specialists

  • Elaboration and cross-team coordination of larger linguistic projects and data collection incentives

  • Consult with Research and our Language Specialists to brainstorm, develop and conceptualise the requirements and approach to obtain data sets, in particular for novel and complex data tasks

  • Liaise with Editorial and Language Specialists to create guidelines, support the roll-out of established tasks, and develop entry tests for linguist screening

  • Assist in assessing resource requirements (internal and external), establishing time lines and monitoring progress

  • Perform QA checks / consult with researchers on delivered data sets, progress, learnings, improvements for next iterations, etc.

  • Analyze and utilize our data to anticipate and mitigate issues before project kick-off

  • Support your team in their day-to-day work and assist them in overcoming any challenges they may face

  • Assist with the hiring/interviewing of new team members

  • Help your team members and identify opportunities to improve team productivity & efficiency

  • Be essential in building and maintaining a wholesome culture within the team

  • Assist with training & onboarding of new starters

  • Help your team members with their skills & career development

  • Hold regular 1:1s with your team members

  • Collaborate on projects to support the delivery of department OKRs

  • Be a main point of contact for team-related questions

Qualities we look for

  • With a passion for Linguistics and Project Management you have 4+ years of experience leading a team of at least 6 people

  • Ideally you have experience both working with and leading a team of Project Managers or Linguists in the language industry

  • You have a Master's degree in linguistics, computational linguistics or a similar field

  • You have the ability to analyze and understand data with the aim of classification, and anticipating potential challenges

  • You enjoy project work and have extensive experience leading projects and working cross-functionally

  • You have strong communication skills (written, verbal) and are highly organized

  • Helping others comes naturally to you, and you are passionate about new technical developments related to our products

  • You enjoy solving problems and learning new things

  • You are empathetic and understanding of others’ needs and actively show an interest in coaching & leadership

  • Your proactive nature and willingness to try new things helps you to master ambiguous situations
