DeepL's Legal team seeking Research Assistants (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter) to join the team focusing on IT, IP & Innovation and Data Privacy. As a Research Assistant at DeepL, you will work closely with our legal team and other legal professionals to provide support and assistance across a range of legal matters. The role requires a commercially-oriented individual who is eager to learn and has the drive and interest to tackle a wide range of tasks within the legal department.

Your responsibilities

  • Providing general legal support on a wide range of day-to-day matters with focus on IT/IP law and data privacy topics.

  • Monitoring incoming legal requests and assisting lawyers with responses.

  • Drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as license agreements and non-disclosure agreements.

  • Assisting in the management of the company’s intellectual property portfolio.

  • Providing guidance on new laws and regulations affecting the company.

  • Using AI tools and systems to improve the efficiency and throughput of legal support.

  • Administrative tasks such as organizing and maintaining documents, and managing deadlines for multiple tasks (e.g. status of trademark applications).

Qualities we look for

  • Excellent training (at least first German State Exam with above average results); prior working experience would be beneficial but is not necessary
  • Interest in AI and language solutions
  • Highly organised with a structured way of working and considerable attention to detail, especially under time pressure
  • Able to follow instructions carefully and accurately. A collaborative individual with a proactive style of working
  • Good time-management and ability prioritise
